Indian Walking Stick Stick Bug aka the Laboratory Stick Insect

A fun, fascinating, quiet, mellow insect friend that uses crypsis, a camoflage defense mechanism where they mimic branches and sticks to blend in with their environment.

Indian Stick Bugs are nocturnal.  They sleep during the day with outstretched arms to look like a stick.  When they wake, they look like robotic wind-up toys, marching across branches and eating the leaves of whatever non-toxic, pesticide-free plants you put in their enclosure.  They love ivy, oak, ash, rose, brambles, eucalyptus, grape, mulberry, and many other leaves.

Can grow to 2 to 4 inches long and live 1-2 years.

Parthenogenetic: they produce fertile eggs without a mate.

YOU MUST NEVER RELEASE YOUR STICKBUG INTO THE WILD and MUST MUST MUST DESTROY THE EGGS BY DISPOSING OF THE CONTENTS OF THE BOTTOM OF THE ENCLOSURE SO NOTHING CAN ESCAPE OR SURVIVE.  You will get a care sheet with details on this.

We ship younger, smaller insects so you can watch them molt and grow.  If you want a bigger or full grown stickbug, please let us know in the order comments or email us.   :)

Care Instructions

Upon arrival, empty the critters into your storage container and provide food and water crystals. Roaches enjoy fresh fruits and veggies, but PLEASE DO NOT FEED onions, garlic, cucumbers, or avocados. Remember, what you gut-load into the animals goes into your pet.

We do not recommend dishes of water as these critters are prone to drowning in very shallow water. Water crystals in a dish or a wet sponge may be used as a water source.

If the weather has been cold, please allow one or two hours for the critters to come to room temperature, at which point they should start moving and resuming normal activity. Contact us immediately with any questions or issues.

Idian stick insect

Happy with my purchase! I couldnt find the care sheet, but I received a male and a female! I dont think it was Gold Coast Roaches, however after going to the PO to get them, the box was very banged up, as well with the plastic container holding them broken. The box could have fallen or taken damage from another parcel, or it could be a careless employee, regardless im grateful they are thriving. They did however stay untouched and alive! Thank you from me Blair&Stan!!

Showed up dead

Ordered a walking stick. Confirmed it needed to be for pickup. It showed up at the post office at 5am and we picked it up by noon. The bug had unfortunately already passed. Super disappointing.
